Hello, friends welcome to the Island | Uncharted.

Nil Diya Pokuna

In this article, we are going to introduce one of Sri Lanka's most secret locations. You probably haven't been here if you've heard about it.

"Nil Diya Pokuna", also known as Blue Water Pond, is located 13.4 km from Elle town in Uva Province, Badulla District. This location was founded by a villager named Meththananda.

When you arrive at Karadagolla Junction on the Ella Wallawaya main route, travel about 2.8 km towards "Nil Diya Pokuna". Then go to Ravana Ella Sanctuary and you can find the "Nil Diya Pokuna" entrance. After that, the most exciting adventure begins from the entrance. It is one of the most dangerous and exciting journeys on the earth. It's not a long journey; it's only around 500m down from ground level from the entrances. In any case, the journey into the darkest cove is extremely risky. It is impossible to cross the cave if there is no light source. As a consequence, you must use a head torch or flashlights to find your path.

The underground pond “Nil Diya Pokuna” is unbelievable. Sometimes it amazes you how a water pound may exist beneath the ground. It is also a source of crystal-clear water. Sometimes you may not have seen that type of water source on the earth before. Because of the clarity of its water, you cannot detect water. When you first view the pound, you might think there is no water here. When you see something through a glass, you can see a difference, but you might not notice a difference here. There is an empty place in the cave, so the water does not move until a drop so something to pond. There for the deepest depth in the pound that can be seen.

Why is this location unique?

    1. As mentioned above, the first reason is its pure water. It seems incredible that there is a magnificent crystal water pound beneath the ground. Furthermore, nobody has discovered the secret behind this narrative as of today (15.06.2022).
    2.  The second reason is that there is an incredible hallow space in the center of the cave on the way to the pond. How does it happen if it is created by someone or if it is created by nature?  Rumors said King Ravana created it many years ago. However, there is no evidence.
    3. The third reason is that there are some naturally colorful patterns in the cave sealing. These are similar to wall art, although there is no indication that they were created by humans.
