Arisimale is a beautiful beach located near Pulmuddai in Sri Lanka.  It is located adjacent to Pulmuddai beach.  The name "Arisimale" comes from the Tamil language.  In Tamil, "arisi" means rice and "malai" means mountain.  Hence Arisimale means "mountain of rice".  The reason behind this name is the sand on the beach.  This beach is made of sand and resembles paddy seeds and is similar to this Arisimale beach.

How to get Arisimale

It is about 50 km from Trincomalee.  The location shown on Google Maps is correct.  A naval checkpoint is located at the entrance to the beach.  There is also a parking lot and you have to park your car there and go through the checkpoint.  You are not allowed to carry bags to the beach.

You will then enter a small forest and you will have to walk about 500 meters through the forest to reach the beach.  There is a clear footprint from the entrance to the end.  You are only allowed to cross these footpaths and are not allowed to enter the deep forest.  This forest is an ancient sacred place.

Historical significance

It was from this place that the two international traders of "Tapassu and Balluka" landed.  They erected the sacred hair relic of the Supreme Buddha and built a dagoba called "Girihandu Seya", the first stupa in Sri Lanka near this area, and placed it in that dagoba.  Buddhist monks meditate here and try to walk quietly without interrupting them.

In Arisimale beach

The beach is clean, and the water is clear but sad to say, the border that separates the beach and the forest is being destroyed by people throwing garbage.  There is a rocky area near the beach and you can go there to watch the amazing view of the beach and the sunset but be careful, you can easily get injured due to the sharp edges of the rocks.

Partying, drinking, smoking, and other illicit drugs are strictly prohibited in this area.  You are not allowed to stay overnight and camp.  Many people try to carry sand along this beach and it is strictly forbidden.  You are not allowed to bathe here as the waves are quite rough and the sea is deep near the shore.

Near the checkpoint, you have a place where you can get basic sanitation and free drinking water.  You can see the "Girihandu Seya" I mentioned above.  It is located 12 km from this beach.  If you plan to stay overnight, you can experience camping at Pulmode Beach, next to Arisimale Beach.  It is within walking distance From Arisimale beach.

A great experience for your daily busy life.  Come on in, take a look and enjoy yourself!  Experience the natural beauty.  Do not destroy it.  Do not litter.  Do not disturb the balance of nature.
